Ocro Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Ocro, published by One Minute Web for Android and for iPhone and iPad, handles information. For the One Minute Web website and our other apps, see our main Privacy Policy. By using Ocro, you agree to this policy.
The short version
Ocro scans, reads and hides parts of documents on your phone. There is no Ocro server, no account and no sync. Your documents never leave your phone unless you save or share a file yourself.
Ocro is free and shows ads. Three things can leave the phone: requests for ads, made through Google AdMob; a time check; and, only if you agree, anonymous usage statistics through Google Firebase Analytics. Nothing else does. When you ask to translate, the App Store or Google Play downloads that translation language once, as it delivers any app's content; nothing about your documents goes with it.
What stays on your phone
- Pages, their text, thumbnails, the details Ocro finds and hides, and your documents' names are stored in Ocro's private storage on the phone. Other apps cannot read them. They are not included in phone backups (iCloud or Google) and do not move to a new phone. Uninstalling Ocro deletes them.
- The Always hide list (words you ask Ocro to hide everywhere) is stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) under a key made on the phone and kept in the phone's own key store; it never leaves the phone and is not backed up.
- Reading text, finding private details (names, account numbers, faces, signatures, codes and more) and hiding them all run on the phone. The recognition models are part of the app; nothing is downloaded.
- Translation runs on the phone too. Hidden words are never translated, shown or copied.
What leaves your phone
Translation languages
The translation models for each language are not part of the app, because together they are about 2 GB. The first time you translate into or from a language, Ocro asks you, and then asks the App Store or Google Play to download that language. The store's own system does the download, as it does for any app's content; Ocro sends nothing about your documents, and it is never told what you translate. After that the language works with no internet. You can delete a language in Settings › Translation languages.
Ads
Ocro shows native ads on Home, in the Documents and Saved files lists and in search results; a full-screen ad now and then after you save or share; and a short video only when you choose to watch one to turn ads off for a while.
To show an ad, the Google Mobile Ads SDK sends Google a request that tells Google about the phone and its advertising settings (for example the device type, the operating system, the app, coarse location derived from the network address, and ad interactions), as every app with Google ads does.
- Before any ad is requested, Google's consent form asks for your choices where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland). You can change them in Settings › Ad choices.
- Ocro asks Google only for ads that are not personalised.
- On Android, Ocro removes the permissions that would give the SDK the advertising ID and Privacy Sandbox's interest and attribution signals.
- On iOS, if Apple asks whether Ocro may track you, saying no changes nothing in Ocro.
- Nothing about a document — no page, no text, no name, no file — is sent to Google or used to choose an ad. The code that requests ads cannot receive document data.

Time check
To keep the "no ads for a while" time honest, Ocro asks https://www.google.com/generate_204 for the current time (or https://www.cloudflare.com/cdn-cgi/trace if Google does not answer). The request carries nothing about you or your documents; it is made when Ocro opens or returns after 10 minutes away, around a video you chose to watch, and only when you are online.
Usage statistics
If you agree in Google's consent form, or turn on Settings › Share usage statistics, Ocro sends Google Firebase Analytics anonymous counts of how the app is used: which screens open, how many pages a scan took and which camera mode it used, which look or file format was chosen, how many details of each kind were hidden, which languages a page was translated between, and when a translation language was downloaded or deleted. Firebase adds what it adds to any app's analytics: the phone model, the operating system and its version, the app's version, the country derived from the network address, and an app-instance identifier it creates for Ocro.
- It is off until you agree, and Settings › Share usage statistics turns it off again at any time.
- Never your advertising ID, on Android or iOS, and never anything used to choose an ad: Ocro tells Firebase that ad storage and ad data are denied, always.
- Never anything from a document: no page, no text, no name, no file name, no hidden detail and no path. The events are a fixed list in the app's code, and a test fails if anything else could be sent.

Nothing else
Widgets, the Control Center control, quick actions and Shortcuts send nothing. The language you choose for the app changes nothing that is sent.
Permissions
Camera, to scan. On Android also: internet (ads and the time check), network state (to know when you are offline), biometric (for the optional app lock), keeping the phone awake and running in the foreground while Google Play unpacks a translation language you asked for, and, on Android 9 and older only, storage write (to save files you export). Ocro reads no photos or files except the ones you pick in the system's own picker.
Children
Ocro is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Your choices
Change ad consent in Settings › Ad choices. Turn usage statistics off or on in Settings › Share usage statistics. Turn ads off for a while by watching a video, or by being offline. Delete documents in the app, or uninstall it to delete everything.
