How Calm Sort works

A card appears showing a shape, a color, and a number. The current rule — shown at the top — tells you which attribute to sort by. Tap the matching category button. Then a new card appears.

After 5 to 8 cards, the rule changes. A brief highlight on the rule badge signals the switch. You must update your sorting logic quickly before the next card arrives.

What this game challenges

Calm Sort exercises cognitive flexibility — the ability to switch between mental rules on demand without losing pace. This is sometimes called task-switching or set-shifting, and it is a core part of everyday focus.

Unlike games that only reward speed, Calm Sort also rewards composure. A gentle streak system builds a rhythm, and rule changes test whether you can shift gears without overcorrecting.

How to handle rule changes well

When you see the rule change indicator, briefly pause before tapping. One extra moment to read the new rule costs less time than a wrong answer and a broken streak.

FAQ

How does Calm Sort work?

Cards appear one at a time, each with a shape, color, and number. A rule at the top tells you how to sort — by color, shape, odd or even, or size. You tap the correct category button. Every few cards, the rule changes.

What are the four sorting rules?

Sort by Color (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow), Sort by Shape (Circle, Square, Triangle, Star), Sort by Odd/Even (whether the number is odd or even), and Sort by Size (whether the number is 1–2 or 3–4).

How often does the rule change?

The rule changes every 5 to 8 cards, chosen randomly. A brief highlight on the rule badge signals the switch so you have a moment to adapt.

What happens when I get one wrong?

Your streak resets gently, but the game continues without a penalty beyond the lost point. The goal is to adapt, not to fear mistakes.
